Aggie Football Legend: Terrence Murphy
T-Murph's Official WebsiteTerrence Murphy was one of my favorite Aggie football player. Not only did he wear the same number as my other favorite Aggie football player (#5 Ja'Mar Toombs), but he was a stud on the field too.
Pre-Texas A&M
The 6'-1", 192 lb. WR came to Texas A&M as a QB from Chapel Hill High School in Tyler, Tx. He was named Offensive Most Valuable Player in District 15-4A his senior year after completing 65-of-158 passes for 1,149 yards and 11 TDs AND rushing for 512 yards and 7 TDs on 92 carries.2001
Terrence was switched to wide receiver his freshman year. An apparent good move, because he set the freshman record for receptions (36) and led the team in receiving yards (518) to go along with his 3 TDs. He had a season best game against Colorado with 146 yards on 10 receptions and 1 TD.2002
After starting his sophomore season injured, T-Murph picked up right where he left off in 2001, besting his receiving yards by 81 yards (599 total) in the same number of receptions while scoring 4 TDs. He had his best game of the season when A&M upset #1 ranked Oklahoma, when he had 128 yards and 2 TDs on 5 receptions.2003
T-Murph blossomed his junior season in 2003. He was one of the few bright spots on a lackluster Aggie team and was named a permanent captain for the 2003 season. He led the team in receptions (44) and receiving yards (762). He also flourished as the team's kick returner setting the single season school record with 626 yards and tied the single season record with 23 returns. His average return of 27.2 held the #13 spot in the nation. Terrence was the only receiver in the nation with over 700 yards and no TDs....come on Fran.Terrence broke the school's all-time receiving yards record after having back-to-back career games to end the 2003 season (8 catches for 156 yards vs. Missouri & 7 catches for 150 yards vs. texas). Every yard he gains his senior year will pad the record a bit more. He fell one reception short of the school's all-time reception record of 117 (held by Bethel Johnson, 1999-2002). He'll get that pretty easily. He is also tied for the school record for most career 100-yard receiving games (6) with WR Jamaar Taylor.
2004
T-Murph finished his career at A&M in a way that very, very few people thought was possible when he signed his letter of intent....as the best WR to leave the school. He grabbed 51 catches for 682 yards and got into the endzone three times in his 11 games. He added onto his all-time school record receiving yards (2,600), broke the school's all-time receptions record (172), and also owns the record for most career 100-yard games with 8.T-Murph was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.

In 2002 we were lucky enough to see Bethel Johnson (#2 all-time receiving yards, 1,740), Terrence, and Jamaar Taylor (#3 all-time receiving yards, 1,705) all play at the same time....Obviously, they were one of aTm's greatest receiving corp ever and teamed up with TE Greg Porter, they totaled 2,606 yards and 18 TDs finishing 2nd in the Big XII behind only texas tech...During the 2003 A&M v. Baylor game, Jamaar and Terrence became the greatest receiving duo in school history. They finished that game with a total of 3,072 career receiving yards....Jamaar Taylor finished his career (due to injury) #2 on the all-time receving yards list and #3 on the all-time receptions list and tied with T-Murph for the school record with 6 100-yard receiving games.
